Coach Taylor has over 15+ years of experience coaching multiple Middle School, High School & AAU basketball teams. He is currently the head coach at Olney Adventist Prep Middle School coaching both the Boys’ & Girls’ Basketball Teams. The Olney Adventist Prep Lady Eagles have won back-to-back championships in 2018 & 2019 in both the Highland View Academy and the Shenandoah Valley Academy Middle School Tournaments. Coach Taylor also serves as the assistant coach of the Spencerville Adventist Academy Girls’ JV Team. Coach Taylor recently assisted the FBS Coaching Staff winning basketball championships in the Boys’ 12U Division (2017) and the Boys’ 14U Division (2018) in one of the DMV’s competitive AAU spring leagues. He also assisted with the FBS Lady Crusaders’ 13U Team this past summer (2018). Coach Taylor’s philosophy focuses on a faithful commitment of hard work and self-discipline which he believes gives the Christian athlete success in life. He also believes by playing your absolute best giving all glory to God with humility, win or lose; despite adversity, shows the true character and spirit of sportsmanship. Sports Experience Growing up in Nebraska, Coach Taylor played football, basketball, and ran track; lettering in all three sports. During the summer months, he played American Legion baseball and played on the Columbus Merchants’ semi-pro baseball team for two years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Coach Taylor won back-to-back State District Championships as a member of the Columbus Scotus Varsity Basketball Team; the first basketball championships won by the Shamrocks. At Columbus Scotus, he began coaching early, developing young elementary/middle school players in Scotus’ intramural basketball program. An all-around athlete, Coach Taylor believes playing multiple sports helps develop an athlete’s physical coordination, fundamental skills, individual discipline, and team commitment. Coach Taylor teaches a consistent free-throw routine is the key to success at the charity stripe. This same consistency transcends a player’s shooting skill improving their overall accuracy. Coach Taylor believes hard work along with mental toughness instills the individual discipline necessary to be successful both on and off the court. Professional Experience
Coach Taylor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Columbia Union College in Silver Spring, MD graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in September 2013 after serving an exemplary career of faithful service to God, Country, and Corps. Coach Taylor believes it is important to be a servant first ~ serving God, your country, and your fellow man. Leading by example, he is an active member of his church serving as a deacon, usher, audio/visual support tech, and cameraman. He also volunteers his time at a local shelter in Alexandria, VA. |
